This year has been a wonderful year for me and my family. Earlier this year in late March, the day before my birthday, we found out we were expecting a new bundle of joy. My husband and I have been together for 5 years now and we are what many call a ‘blended’ family. My husband has a daughter who is eleven and I have a son who is seven. We debated for years whether we wanted to have one of our own. We finally came to the decision in 2016, and in 2017 we were blessed with this new addition.
Our new addition arrived on December 5th, 2017, right on time at exactly 40 weeks. However, he had kept me prodromal (early labor) for nearly 9 days. I had been having contractions on and off for days. My contractions would pick up for a few hours then taper off. I was seriously losing hope this baby would ever arrive. However, the Monday before he arrived was different. The contractions started and never stopped. The picked up in strength and intensity by Monday evening. Tuesday morning, I woke up still having contractions and I knew this was it. We got my son on the bus at 8:30 and we were on our way to the hospital by 9:30. Things were going really quickly. At 11:30 am my water broke and our little Declan Thomas arrived at 1:02 p.m. He couldn’t be more perfect.
